It was Mona Zote's poem, 'Ernestina in Peril', that transported me in spirit to Mizoram years ago. A memorable time in the land of sun, sea and Buddhas. From the extraordinary richness of Dambulla to relaxed conversations at the sensitively-organized Ceylon Lit Fest, several moments linger. Poet and artist Gieve Patel (1940 - 2023) worked for over fifty years on his translations of two mystic poets of Gujarat, Akho and Vasto. Glad to be taking the travelling gallery of upside-downers to Chennai. World Education Day yesterday had me thinking about teachers. And the legacy of gratitude and trauma they so often leave in their wake. Glad to be taking the upside-downers to Delhi. Look forward to returning for the @blrlitfest this weekend! I look forward to returning to the BIC for this session on The Gallery of Upside Down Women! When a book of poems finds its way into the life of someone who understands the importance of 'askewness', it feels like a small victory for the tribe of the Aslant and the Awry...!
