Friends in Mumbai, look forward to seeing you at this event! A tribute to Gieve Patel and to a project that meant a very deal to him. Look forward to this conversation with dancer, friend and long-term collaborator, Alarmel Valli. It feels right to share this one on World Poetry Day. It was Mona Zote's poem, 'Ernestina in Peril', that transported me in spirit to Mizoram years ago. A memorable time in the land of sun, sea and Buddhas. From the extraordinary richness of Dambulla to relaxed conversations at the sensitively-organized Ceylon Lit Fest, several moments linger. Poet and artist Gieve Patel (1940 - 2023) worked for over fifty years on his translations of two mystic poets of Gujarat, Akho and Vasto. Glad to be taking the travelling gallery of upside-downers to Chennai. World Education Day yesterday had me thinking about teachers. And the legacy of gratitude and trauma they so often leave in their wake. Glad to be taking the upside-downers to Delhi.
