I've been reading some fine translations of the 12-13th century Persian poet, Attar, by Sholeh Wolpe in "The Invisible Sun". After "Eating God", the anthology of Bhakti poetry I edited ten years ago, I felt I could spend the rest of my life wandering the world and talking about these extraordinary poems and poets. And then, there are mothers. Several conversations this past fortnight have been about "growing up". For the refusal to settle for the honeyed word and the borrowed answer... Friends in Mumbai, look forward to seeing you at this event! A tribute to Gieve Patel and to a project that meant a very deal to him. Look forward to this conversation with dancer, friend and long-term collaborator, Alarmel Valli. It feels right to share this one on World Poetry Day. It was Mona Zote's poem, 'Ernestina in Peril', that transported me in spirit to Mizoram years ago.
